Things to Do This Summer

Let’s be honest. Summer is great, but it can be extremely boring. The first weeks of summer are great. Just being able to sleep in is the best. Still, be realistic; after the first golden weeks of summer, it gets boring. Sure, you can hang out with your friends, but a lot of the time they’re busy when you’re available. So I went scouring the internet for fun solo/group activities you can do to have a blast this summer.

  1. Go swimming: Going swimming is a summertime staple, and it’s is an easy way to get exercise and get cool.
  2. Go hiking: Hiking is something every student should try to do in the summer. Sure, it may be hot, but if you go in the morning, the heat is mild, and the view of the Las Vegas sunrise is something to wake up early for. Not only is hiking a great way to have fun, but it is great exercise.
  3. Go to the Strip: Despite the fact that Vegas summers feel like the armpit of a small demon, one of the perks of living here is having the Strip in the vicinity. The Strip has something for everyone, whether you like shopping, dining, gaming (I’m talking about arcades. Relax.), or sightseeing.
  4. Play sports with your friends: I did this with my friends. We would go to a park as a group to just play basketball or another sport. You can also go somewhere like Topgolf or other indoor sporting venues.

Out of all these activities, freshman Marcos Menderos said, “I prefer going to the Strip because there is plenty to do there like shopping and watching the shows. I could also meet up with friends because it’s really fun to be at the Strip until sunrise. I’ve done that. The Linq area is where you go eat and other fun stuff.”

However, Junior Matthew Johnson stated, “I would probably play sports with my friends because it keeps me active, you know? Gotta keep up the summer bod up. It’s just fun to hang around with all my friends and do what we do.”

So take these activities, figure out which one is best for you, and well… H.A.G.S.!
