2016 is here and everyone is hyped. It seems like every movie and videogame that was highly anticipated (besides Fallout 4) is releasing this year. In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s a preview of everything that has the Maverick Messenger staff hyped for 2016.

Marvel fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting for Captain America: Civil War. Captain America and Iron Man go psycho in this movie, starting a war between the avengers. The movie is planned to release May 6. Another Marvel comics universe movie Deadpool, comes out February 12. This will be Deadpool’s first real film adaptation, and our red-clad friend is always sure to bring an entertaining experience.

Disney has 13 movie releases planned for this year, including Finding Dory (June 17), The Jungle Book (April 15), and The BFG (July 1). A return to everyone’s childhood is imminent this year.

Early this year is Super Bowl XIX on February 7 followed by the NBA finals in June. The Summer Olympics are coming to Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. Winning more gold and overall medals than any other country in the summer olympics, about 2399, U.S. fans look towards more medals to keep the streak.

Rumors of new Apple technology include the iPhone 7 for 2016. Said to be thinner than ever, the iPhone 7 is removing the headphone jack to reduce size. Improving on last year’s design Apple is creating the Apple Watch 2, expected to come in March. Like the iPhone 7 it will be thinner than before, and have FaceTime capability. Apple fans can be excited about the new technology coming out this year.

This year’s planned gaming releases are also surrounded by hype. A new release of Final Fantasy XV proving yet again that the series may just continue on forever. Planned for release on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC include: the next installment in the Mass Effect series, Mass Effect: Andromeda (December), Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (August 23), and a Doom reboot (March 24). The Doom reboot should tug on people’s nostalgia strings, as should the release of Dark Souls III (March 24).Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will release April 26 on Playstation 4. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 (February 23), is a far cry from the original Plants vs. Zombies games, now a third person shooter. Also No Man’s Sky, which was talked up for the entirety of last year, will release in June. Mighty No. 9, hyped for nearly two years, and after being postponed several times, is planned to release on February 9 of this year.

In Nintendo’s news, Star Fox Zero releases April 21, again, smacking everyone right in their hearts from nostalgia. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS’s final DLC characters are set to release. At E3 or maybe in another Direct, Nintendo is expected to announce their newest console, which fans are now calling the “NX” some time this year.Although there’s little information about it, the Wii U installment of the Legend of Zelda series is has fans hyped for its planned release this year. Nintendo will probably release more details about the game further into the year,with a probable release date at E3.

All in all, 2016 is looking to be a very exciting and emotional ride. It’s time to look at this year with the young eyes of a six-year-old, and look at the world with wonder yet again.
