Underrated, Must-Play 3DS Games!

Underrated, Must-Play 3DS Games!

Ramon Perez, Cub Reporter

The Nintendo 3DS is now over 6 years old, and countless downloadable and physical games have been made for it. Regardless of its age, the 3DS is still one of, if not, the best handheld portable gaming devices there ever was.  There are loads of games that so many people play, like Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 7, and the Pokemon games, however, there are quite a few great games that go past most people’s radar. This is why I have compiled a list to showcase some games that I believe are well worth a try!

  1. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy

   Metacritic Score: 81/100

   Price: $29.99

This is actually a compilation of 3 Nintendo DS games packed into one 3DS game, but with enhanced graphics. Basically, 3 games for $30, or $10 a game. In the game, you play as Phoenix Wright, a beginner defense attorney. Half of each case takes place outside, where you get to explore and look for clues and evidence to use in court to prove your defendant not guilty. The other half is in court, where you listen to witnesses’ cases and find contradictions in their testimonies. This game has many fun and intense moments, and feels satisfying when you find the true culprit and finish a case.

  1. Resident Evil: Revelations

   Metacritic Score: 82/100

   Price: $19.99

Released in early 2012, Resident Evil: Revelations is a third person survival horror shooter game developed by Capcom. Initially a 3DS exclusive, it was later ported to the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC due to having good reviews. The game takes place mainly on board of the Queen Zenobia, an abandoned cruise ship in the middle of the ocean, infested with Bio Organic Weapons, also known as BOWS. You play as Jill Valentine, a BSAA member looking for two other missing BSAA members. The story starts off simple, but keeps taking turns to keep the player on the edge of their seat. The game itself is intense, and a rerun does not make it boring. Resident Evil: Revelations has some of the best graphics for any 3DS game released.

  1. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX

   IGN Score: 9.5/10

   Price: $5.99

A Gameboy Color game on the 3DS? Yes, it deserves the spot. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX was originally released back in October of 1998, but later got a release on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in June of 2011. This game’s story starts off as the protagonist, Link, is sailing on a boat in the sea. After a storm kicks in and shipwrecks him, He washes up onto a shore of a mysterious island, where a girl named Marin finds his body and takes him in for shelter. Link wakes up and wants to get off the island, but in order to get off, he needs to find 8 magical instruments to awaken the Wind Fish, a magical creature living in an egg on top of a volcano. Overall, this game has beautiful graphics, good music, and is a good way to pass your time. Adventuring around the island, solving puzzles, and defeating enemies is very fun to do in this game.
