Recent controversy of the upcoming film “A Dog’s Purpose” has animal lovers all over the world upset over footage obtained by TMZ, of film crew members forcing German Shepard, Hercules into turbulent water. According to TMZ, Birds & Animals, the organization in charge of training the animals, claims the dog was not thrown in from the spot where he resisted, but feels the “falsely edited video” implied that.

Birds & Animals claims the footage does not tell the full story. In the video, Hercules tried to avoid going into the rapid waters before a man pushed the dog´s torso into the water. After releasing the dog in the pool of water, the video shows Hercules struggling to stay above the waves before cast and crew members rush to save the dog. Throughout the course of the video the voice of a man on set can be heard saying, “He ain’t gonna calm down till he’s in the water, just gotta throw him in.” and “Awe he wants to get away just throw him in.”

Universal and Amblin Entertainment cancelled the film’s Los Angeles premiere and has been postponed till January 27, 2017, but PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) has called for a boycott of the film on social media with the hashtag “#BoycottADogsPurpose.”

Hercules is said to now be happy and unharmed.
