Lorenzo Hernandez’s Game Development classes are currently working on their end of the quarter project. He gave them the opportunity to create their own games.

Hernandez’s classes have been working with 2D games and have made a few games on their own. Now they are making their own original 2D game in gamemaker. They are allowed to do any style game they want with the criteria being having to make their own custom sprites and custom back grounds. They must make their own custom buttons, have three different levels minimum, and have a story.

Sprites are the players, enemies, or the collectibles that they have to come in contact with in the game.

Freshman William Kidwell is working on his game that is, in his words, “…totally not a space invaders rip off.”

Kidwell’s game involves shooting aliens and collecting points. He added a boss fight as well.

Kidwell said, “It’s kind of fun honestly and I enjoyed making the game.”

Others in the class have different opinions, however,

Freshman Brendan Sirls said his game, “…was probably the most painful, like brain killing project.”

Sirls went into depth about his game involving the movement of arrows and boxes. He created a puzzle game where the arrows goes in four directions to form a maze. Sirls explained how he got into a lot of problems while working with this game, the main one, self locking and the complete breaking of everything.

Sirls said, “If there was ever an excuse to overdose on pain pills for your head, this would be it, but overall it did come out pretty great.”
