On Friday, February 15th, the Black Student Union will be hosting an assembly during eight period in celebration of February being Black History Month.

“During the assembly, it’s going to be a lot of different aspects to understanding and knowing the African American history,” BSU President Amaris Davis said. “We have a Black Excellence Skit written by Martinique Bell, a Fashion Show with pieces from Anquionetta Eagles, poems, and performances.”

For this assembly, BSU wanted to focus more on the history and be able to incorporate different pieces and influences of their life into the assembly.

“For the skit, we are focusing on people from 1868-1920s, since they paved the way for many things in our life happening,” Davis said. “The fashion show will be the way our ancestors dressed and persona that we are making on our own, in categories like professional dress, formal, and more.”

“I’m interested in this assembly,” sophomore Lizbeth Pena said. “Last year’s was very interesting and I wonder if they’re going to keep some of the same elements or change it up.”
