Recently, the Environmental Awareness club had a clean-up at a wetland area on Saturday, October 13, and are doing two other school clean-ups in October. Those cleanups are on the 18th and the 25th. For every clean-up, the students that are involved get community service hours.

“So they clean up different areas on the campus, [with] garbage bags and gloves- then they clean up the stuff that students leave around,” said Danielle Belin, advisor for Environmental Awareness Club and Biology teacher.

Not only can students get community service hours and help the environment, but students can also get to know your fellow club members.

“You get the opportunity to get to know your club members better- and you get the opportunity to meet some great people,” said freshman Layla Al-Rashed.

Along with doing clean-ups, the club does fundraisers for foundations such as: Heifer Foundation, Environmental Defense Fund, and the Tortoise Group. Later on in the year, near the holidays, there will be a succulent sale.

“It takes a lot of hard work to really clean up the area but- I enjoy [doing] clean-ups because they are very rewarding once you are done,” said Al-Rashed.
